Felting with Lyn

This particular piece was created by Lyn Pflueger and it inspired my practice session with her. I wanted to pactice making 3-D form and Lyn volunteered her studio space and material. Lyn is a special lady in the the Calgary textile community. She donates her knowledge and time endlessly. Thank you for the wonderful day Lyn!

Steps to completion:

1. Lay down the white fleece. Four layers on each side of the rectangle piece of plastic that is necessary for 3-D form.

2. Lay down coloured strips on each side.

3. Agitate the fleece until you can't pull apart any individual hairs. Use bubble wrap for the roughness.

4. Then pull out plastic piece and form around a jar. Add more shape to the bowl.

5. Round out the bottom with agitation. Sometimes stretching, sometimes shrinking.

6. Wrap nylon string around felted piece and pole for design of the dying.

7. Put in rolling boil of dye for one hour.

8. Rinse and leave on the poll for a couple of days to dry.
