Looking at Small Town Living - the quiet, the stillness and space between noise and action dominate the scene.
Living in Drumheller is a lot different than living in the city. The small intimate spaces vs. the big city intersections. The quiet, the stillness and space between noise and action dominate the scene.
These pieces are a combination of photo transfers, paint and ink. They are on 10"x8" board canvas and finished with a gel. I am working on more of them. I found a few old albums that were abandoned in my garage and they provided the characters in the scenes. They leave a ghostly image bringing the old and the new together into a story of continuation. The sense of a small town is one of continuation and connection rather than constant renewal and change.
Custom Photo-transfer collage work with your memories
I am attempting to dive into more of my custom work with this process.
Do you have a stack of old photo albums that never see the light of day? Would you like to see your grandparents or yourself as a child become part of contemporary artwork?
Well now is your chance. JakeJoy, a local artist, is collecting old photos - pre 1960s - for her artwork which will be on display at the heartwood Inn during July and following, two public shows in Calgary. This is a great way to celebrate people from your past, and the beauty of our valley.
There are two ways you can submit your photos. One, you can scan in your photos - max 10 - and email them to firstname.lastname@example.org. Make sure they are no less than 1MB in size. Or you can call me and I will come to your house with my scanner to capture your photos. So in both cases, you keep your originals.
Two requirements: the photo must include people and the photo must have been taken pre-1960. If your photos are chosen for the use in a painting, you will be provided with one free copy of the completed work for your home. This is open to anyone in and around the Drumheller valley.
Or originals will be available for purchase after the last show in Calgary.
